A note from Dr. Norelius
A year ago I took a big leap and left a busy practice in a large, urban setting and moved with my family to Kalispell to lead an established pediatric surgery program at a small but rapidly growing hospital in Northwest Montana. I have found that Logan Health values physician input and involvement and there are many opportunities for leadership and program development. Our system has expanded and our state and region has seen a large influx of new residents, so we are seeking a second pediatric surgeon to support and sustain our continued advancement. I am looking for a partner to help us ensure that the children and families of Northwest Montana have access to quality pediatric surgical care in their home state. To tell you more about me: I was born in Colorado where a love for the Mountain West was deeply imprinted. I completed my undergraduate degree at the University of Texas in Austin and Medical school at Baylor College of medicine in Houston. My general surgery residency took me to Rochester, NY, and I had the privilege of finishing my pediatric surgery training at the University of Texas in Houston in 2011. I gained wonderful experience in various practice settings in Colorado, Alaska and Georgia before finding my way back West to Montana. My husband and I have three young children and could not pass up the opportunity to raise them in the great outdoors. My time in Montana has been refreshing and renewing. This practice affords fulfillment in my career and my home life simultaneously. I have the pleasure of working with a great pediatric surgery team composed of a dedicated nurse practitioner, a part-time physician assistant and a clinic nurse. All of our inpatient care occurs at one hospital in Kalispell, and a robust outreach program allows me to travel around the state to see patients in our regional clinic locations. A new Children’s Hospital building opened in the summer of 2019. It is a beautiful space that houses our pediatric floor, PICU, and NICU, child life playroom, family room and child-friendly lobby. We are currently planning the second floor of this building to create a multidisciplinary pediatric outpatient center with a large infusion center, procedure rooms, physician offices and ample clinic space. Away from work, recreational opportunities abound. Glacier National Park, Whitefish Mountain Ski Resort, multiple lakes, numerous hiking and biking trails, and endless wilderness are all nearby and easily accessible. Daily life here provides all the benefits of small town living with many of the amenities of urban centers. We hope to attract a candidate that values quality patient care and a healthy professional and personal life balance. This is a unique and wonderful opportunity, and I would be glad to discuss further details of this opportunity at any time. Sincerely, Rona Norelius, MD, FAAP, FACS
