The VA North Texas Health Care System (VANTHCS) is currently recruiting for a Physician (Emergency Medicine-Section Chief) located in Dallas, Tx. The Emergency Department sees more than 40,000 visits per year cared for by upwards of sixty providers and is ranked as one of the top five busiest VA departments nationally. This position is eligible for a Recruitment/Relocation Incentive for a highly qualified candidate. This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education: Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Licensure and Registration: Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. (NOTE: VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.) Approved residencies are: Those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), b) OR Those approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA),OR Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States), which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an appropriate range of patient care experiences. Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs). PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e., not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis. PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged; rather, they are to have a "scope of practice" that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision. Additionally, surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs. Physical Requirements: See outlined below. English Language Proficiency. Physicians appointed to direct patient-care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. § 7402(d) and 7407(d). Preferred Experience: Board Certified/Board Eligible in Emergency Medicine. 3+ years experience in administrative and leadership skills. Experience in diagnosing and treating seriously ill, multi-symptomatic patients and respond to emergencies. Knowledge of VA computer software programs. ["The Emergency Department Section Chief (Physician) will serve as the department medical director responsible for supervising all clinical physician staff and internal department operations. The role will maintain a 60/40 clinical to administrative labor map, working approximately four 12-hour clinical shifts and four 8-hour administrative shifts per pay period. Some of the expected responsibilities include but are not limited to: Operations: Approve and release provider schedule (schedule provided by APP scheduler) Manage provider sick call (Call activation, moving shifts, other adjustments) Track employee utilization for Part-Time employees (MSLE/Hours) and Fee-Basis (Funds/Cap room) in conjunction with scheduler Obtain, Interpret, and present monthly operational metrics to the physician leadership team and the provider group Work with Nursing to optimize EMMT targeted metrics regarding patient and department flow Mentor physicians to achieve operational goals/standards Emergency Medicine representative to the monthly hospital access committee Coordinate with staff to maintain ED supplies and administrative personal to obtain equipment Coordinate with Engineering regarding renovations and interval downtimes EM representation at hospital committee meetings to include daily morning report, biweekly peer review, monthly ECMS credentialing and privileging Department meetings including weekly leadership meeting and monthly provider meeting Virtual Beds Manage Open Encounters Supervision: Provide direct supervision for 23 Tier 1 full and part time physician as well as Fee-Basis Physicians including timecards, proficiency reports, pay for performance, awards, and if applicable disciplinary action VATAS physician supervisor, and backup supervisor to other EM Sections Hiring processes including selection, onboarding, HR coordination with administrative personnel Liaison with Privileging and Credentialing for Physicians Respond to Union inquiries Clinical Collaborations: Coordination with Training, Education, Quality (TEQ) Section to ensure physician staff is up to date with trainings requirements that would otherwise impede their work status Coordination with Clinical Decision Unit (CDU) Section regarding department flow and Observation medicine Coordination with Emergency Medicine Services Section (EMS) regarding transfers Coordination with Intermediate Care Technician (ICT) Section regarding procedural assistance Coordination with Women's health Lead regarding OBGYN services Coordination with Advanced Practice Provider (APP) lead regarding staffing and clinical supervision Work Schedule: May vary depending on facility needs.
